New Nanomaterial to Stimulate Brain Cells Without Surgery
In September 2025, Indian scientists demonstrated that a special nanomaterial called graphitic carbon nitride (g-C₃N₄) can stimulate brain cells without electrodes, lasers, or magnetic devices. This innovation could transform treatments for neurodegenerative diseases and brain injuries.
What is Graphitic Carbon Nitride (g-C₃N₄)?
- Graphitic carbon nitride is a semiconducting nanomaterial with unique electrical properties that allow it to interact naturally with neurons.
- It can generate tiny electric fields in response to the brain’s own voltage signals, enabling direct neuromodulation without invasive implants.
