TENG-Powered Shoes for DRDO
On 8th August 2024, the Indian Institute of Technology, Indore (IIT Indore) delivered ten pairs of Tribo-Electric Nanogenerator (TENG)-based shoes to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), designed to harness energy from human motion for powering electronic devices.
What is TENG Technology?
- Definition and Mechanism: Tribo-Electric Nanogenerators (TENGs) convert mechanical energy into electrical energy through friction between tribo-pairs. In these shoes, Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) and Aluminium are used to generate power with each step, which is then stored in a central device within the shoe sole for powering small-scale electronic circuits.
