Successful Maiden Flight Tests of IADWS
On 23rd August 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out maiden flight tests of the Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) off the Odisha coast.
What is IADWS?
- A multi-layered, all-indigenous air defence system.
- Comprises Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missiles (QRSAM), Advanced Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missiles, and a high-power laser-based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW).
- Controlled by a Centralised Command and Control Centre developed by the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL).
Why the focus on IADWS?
- Designed to protect India and its critical installations from long-range missiles, aircraft, UAVs, and cyber-enabled attacks.
