Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Bill, 2025
- On 13 August 2025, the Uttarakhand Cabinet approved amendments to the existing anti-conversion law.
- The new bill includes strict provisions such as life imprisonment and heavy fines.
- In addition to severe punishment for illegal religious conversion, the bill also includes provisions to ban misinformation through digital media and ensure the protection of victims.
- The Freedom of Religion Act in Uttarakhand was introduced in 2018 with the aim of reinforcing the importance of each religion equally under the right to freedom of religion in Articles 25, 26, 27 and 28 of the Constitution of India.
