Interstellar Object 3I/ATLAS Confirmed
- In July 2025, NASA and the International Astronomical Union confirmed 3I/ATLAS as the third interstellar object ever observed passing through our solar system.
- Interstellar objects are celestial bodies that originate from outside the solar system; they travel on hyperbolic orbits, move at extremely high speeds, and are not bound by the Sun’s gravity.
- First detected between June 25–29, 2025, by NASA’s ATLAS telescopes in Hawaii, Chile, and South Africa, 3I/ATLAS showed a hyperbolic trajectory—indicating it came from beyond the solar system.
- 3I/ATLAS travelled at nearly 152,000 mph and was projected to exit the solar system permanently after a close pass ....
