Gwada Negative
In June 2025, the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) officially recognised the 48th human blood group system, discovered by the French Blood Establishment (EFS).
- Named Gwada Negative, the blood group was found in a 54-year-old woman from Guadeloupe living in Paris, making her the only known carrier of this type.
- Gwada Negative, or EMM-negative, is characterised by the absence of the EMM antigen — a high-incidence protein usually present on red blood cells.
