Skin Health Gets Global Attention

On 24th May 2025, the 78th World Health Assembly unanimously adopted a historic resolution: ‘Skin diseases as a global public health priority’ — the first of its kind.

What does the resolution recognise?

  • Skin diseases affect 1.9 billion people worldwide, yet remain underfunded.
  • Often dismissed as cosmetic, they can cause severe stigma, disability, and economic loss.
  • The resolution pushes for global policy inclusion, research funding, and access to care.

Why is it urgent?

  • Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) suffer most from neglected skin diseases.
