Bharat Climate Observation Network (BCON)

On 18th June 2026, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, signed a long-term Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital, to establish a Bharat Climate Observation Network (BCON) monitoring station at Devasthal in the Himalayan region.

Objectives of the MoU

  • To strengthen collaborative research on climate change using long-term observations.
  • To generate high-quality, high-accuracy climate datasets for advanced climate research.
  • To improve understanding of climate processes over the Himalayan region.
  • To support evidence-based climate policy formulation in India.
