Launch of E85 Fuel in India

On 5th June 2026, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas launched E85 fuel at an IndianOil retail outlet in New Delhi, marking a significant step towards developing a nationwide flex-fuel ecosystem and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.

What is E85?

  • E85 is a high-ethanol blended fuel containing:
    • 80-85% ethanol
    • 14-19% petrol
  • It is specifically designed for Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFVs).

Flex-Fuel Vehicles (FFVs)

  • Vehicles capable of operating on ethanol blends ranging from E20 to E100.
  • Provide flexibility to use different ethanol-petrol blends.

Expansion Plan

  • 500 retail outlets by December 2026
  • 5,000 retail outlets by December 2027
