10 Years of the Street Vendors Act, 2014
In April 2024, the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014 has completed 10 years since enactment.

- Regulates vending through Town Vending Committees (TVCs).
- Identity cards & Certificates of Vending (CoV) for legal protection.
- Defines vending zones (max 2.5% of population).
- Government duties: Provide credit, insurance, welfare schemes.
- Grievance Redressal Committees (GRCs) for dispute resolution.
Implementation Challenges
- Low registration, many vendors lack CoV& ID cards.
- Evictions continue, as TVCs & vending plans absent in many states.
