In March 2024, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) released the Human Development Report (HDR) 2023-24, titled “Breaking the Gridlock: Reimagining Cooperation in a Polarized World.”

- India’s HDI rank improved to 134 in 2022 (from 135 in 2021), with an HDI value of 0.644.
- Key Indicators:
- Life Expectancy: 67.7 years
- Expected Schooling: 12.6 years
- GNI per Capita: $6,951
Global Rankings
- Top Performers: Switzerland (1st), Norway (2nd), Iceland (3rd).
- India’s Position:
- Below China (75) & Sri Lanka (78).
