Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, 2025 announced the creation of a new 'Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat' and pushed for amending laws that are limiting this growth.
- Rs.20,000 crore allocated for R&D in Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
- Aim: 5 operational SMRs by 2033; 100 GW nuclear capacity by 2047.
- Current Capacity: 8,180 MW, to reach 22,480 MW by 2031–32.
- Major Projects: 10 reactors under construction across 6 states.
- Kovvada Project (AP) in collaboration with USA: 6 × 1208 MW.
- Strategic Vision: Collaborative implementation via DAE, NPCIL, private sector.
- Supports India's goal of 500 GW non-fossil fuel energy by 2030 ....
