SPHEREx Satellite
NASA’s SPHEREx space observatory, which launched into low Earth orbit on March 11, 2025 has opened its eyes to the sky.
- On March 18, 2025 the mission team commanded the spacecraft to eject the protective dust cover that shielded the telescope opening.
- Full Name: Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer
- Goal: Map 450M galaxies, 100M stars
- Light Spectrum: Optical + near-infrared
- Over a two-year planned mission, the SPHEREx observatory will collect data on more than 450 million galaxies along with more than 100 million stars in the Milky Way in order to explore the origins ....
