UNEP Adaptation Gap Report 2024
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) released the Adaptation Gap Report 2024, titled “Come Hell and High Water,” in November 2024.
- The report assesses global progress in climate adaptation planning, finance, and implementation.
Key Findings
- Global Temperatures: Rapidly approaching 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
- Escalating Climate Risks: Rising temperatures are increasing adaptation costs and exacerbating residual climate risks.
- Urgent Action Required: Strengthening adaptation components in the next Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) due by February 2025 is critical.
- Global Coverage:
- 171 countries (87%) have at least one National Adaptation Plan (NAP).
- 51% of these nations have a second adaptation instrument, while 20% have a third.
