Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialization Scheme, 2024
The Union Cabinet has approved Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialization Scheme (UNNATI – 2024) to boost industrialization and employment in the Northeast Region (NER).
Challenges in NER Industrialization
- Non-operational Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and low Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) presence, contributing only 2.98% of India’s total.
- Infrastructure gaps hinder industrial development.
- The region has strengths in handloom, bamboo, and rubber industries.
- International projects like the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway and Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project improve connectivity.
