Adi Vaani: AI-Powered Platform for Tribal Language Preservation

On 24th August 2026, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched the upgraded Adi Vaani platform at the National Conclave on Tribal Languages & Museums in Mysuru, Karnataka.

What is Adi Vaani?

  • Adi Vaani is India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered translator for tribal languages.
  • It seeks to bridge communication gaps between tribal and non-tribal communities while digitally preserving endangered tribal languages.
  • It has been developed by a consortium led by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, along with:
    • Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani.
    • International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad.
    • International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Naya Raipur.
    • Tribal Research Institutes in Jharkhand, Odisha, ....
