Indian Institute of Science Releases SraVaani

In August 2026, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru released the SraVaani, a multilingual speech recognition model for Indian languages.

What is SraVaani?

  • Multilingual Indian Speech Recognition Model: It is the first multilingual Indian speech recognition model trained on 65 Indian languages and a dialect, including over 40 languages that today’s speech recognition systems do not officially support.
  • Developed by: Indian Institute of Science (IISc)’s SPIRE Lab, in collaboration with ARTPARK and Google.
  • Based on: Project Vaani, one of IISc’s major programmes to understand the linguistic diversity of India.
