Highest Ever Temperature Recorded in Arctic Region

Recently, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) confirmed that Verkhoyansk, a Siberian town, experienced a temperature of 380 C on 20th June, 2020, the highest temperature ever recorded in the Arctic region.

Changing Arctic Climate: Key Findings

  • Location: Verkhoyansk is about 115 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle and the meteorological station there has been observing temperatures since 1885. (All landmasses and seas north of 66.5°N latitude are considered the Arctic region. The latitude itself is called the Arctic Circle).
