Tamil Nadu Synchronized Bird Survey Report
- The Tamil Nadu Forest Department recently released findings from the synchronized bird survey during the International Biodiversity Day events.
- A total of 397 bird species were recorded in the wetland bird survey and 401 species in the terrestrial bird survey.
- Wetland surveys, conducted across 934 sites, revealed that 34% (136 species) of the birds were long-distance migratory species.
- Key wetland species observed includes the Greylag Goose, Greater Flamingo, Eurasian Curlew, Pied Avocet, and Lesser Crested Tern.
- Districts with the highest species richness in wetlands—over 200 species—were Coimbatore, Erode, and Dindigul.
