Kanha Tiger Reserve
Recently, a tigress and four cubs died in Madhya Pradesh’s Kanha Tiger Reserve raising concerns over Canine Distemper Virus (CDV).
- CDV causes severe respiratory, neurological, and gastrointestinal complications in wild carnivores, including tigers.
- The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) guidelines mandate vaccination of stray dogs in and around tiger reserves.
- Madhya Pradesh recorded 27 tiger deaths in 2026, including deaths due to natural causes, electrocution, drowning, and territorial fights.
- Kanha Tiger Reserve is among India’s most prominent protected areas, known for its rich Central Indian biodiversity and strong tiger conservation efforts.
