Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis: Largest Known Dinosaur from Southeast Asia

In May 2026, scientists described a new giant sauropod dinosaur species named Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis from Thailand.

  • The dinosaur lived around 113 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous Period.
  • Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis is considered the largest known dinosaur discovered in Southeast Asia.
  • The dinosaur belonged to the Sauropod lineage, characterised by a long neck, long tail, small head and four pillar-like legs.
  • Researchers estimated the dinosaur measured nearly 27 metres (about 90 feet) in length and weighed between 25 and 28 tonnes.
