Climate Finance Gap in India’s Himalayan Region

Recently, a synthesis report by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) highlighted that India’s Himalayan region requires nearly $102 billion annually for climate change adaptation and mitigation.

  • The report focuses on the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region, spanning 8 countries, and underscores escalating climate risks affecting ecosystems and livelihoods.

  • The HKH region requires USD 768.68 billion annually for combined adaptation and mitigation.
  • China (USD 605 bn) and India (USD 102 bn) together account for over 92% of total financial needs.
