Legal Rights for Amazonian Stingless Bees
Recently, two municipalities in Peru (Satipo and Nauta) passed an ordinance granting legal rights to Amazonian stingless bees, making them the first insect species in the world to receive such recognition.
What are stingless bees?
- Stingless bees are a group of bees that do not sting or have stingers incapable of causing pain.
- They are found across tropical regions worldwide, with nearly half of the 500 known species living in the Amazon.
