Rare ‘Half Male-Half Female’ Crab Discovered in Western Ghats
Recently, scientists discovered a rare crab showing both male and female characteristics.
- The discovery was made in Silent Valley National Park, Western Ghats.
- The crab belongs to the freshwater species Vela carli.
- One side of the crab is male, while the other is female.
- This rare condition is called gynandromorphy.
- It occurs due to errors during early cell division.
- The specimen was found inside a tree cavity during fieldwork.
