Climate Change Increasing Flood Frequency in High Mountain Asia
A new study published on 28th February 2025 revealed that flood frequency in High Mountain Asia (HMA) has significantly increased since 2000 due to climate change, posing serious risks to downstream communities.
Key Findings of the Study

- HMA has been warming at 0.3°C per decade, altering precipitation patterns and accelerating snowmelt.
- Floods are now occurring outside the monsoon season, increasing unpredictability.
- Pluvial (rain-driven) and snowmelt floods have shown the greatest rise in frequency.
