The European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), effective from January 2026, introduces carbon tariffs on greenhouse gas emissions during the production of certain carbon-intensive goods such as iron, steel, and fertilizers. As iron and steel constitute nearly 90% of India’s exports to the EU exposed to CBAM, Indian producers face significant competitive and regulatory challenges.
