Menstrual Health as a Facet of Right to Life: SC
On 30th January 2026, in a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court declared that access to menstrual hygiene is a fundamental part of a girl child’s right to life, dignity, health, and education under Article 21 of the Constitution.
- The judgement arose from a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which sought nationwide implementation of menstrual hygiene policies for schoolgirls (Classes 6-12) and better infrastructure, including gender-segregated toilets.
