India–Japan Maritime Cooperation

On 2nd June 2025, India and Japan held a high-level bilateral meeting to deepen maritime ties, focusing on investment, port digitisation, and seafarer employment.

  • Key areas of discussion included Japan’s support in transforming the Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands into Smart Islands using green energy, smart mobility, and digital infrastructure.
  • Proposals for co-development of ports and maritime industrial clusters were explored, with emphasis on shipbuilding, ship repair, and sustainable port infrastructure.
