Safe Mobility Program

  • In April 2026, the Uttar Pradesh government launched the ‘Safe Mobility Program’ to promote women’s empowerment through safe transport and employment generation.
  • The initiative focuses on training women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as e-rickshaw drivers, ensuring safe and accessible mobility for women and girls.
  • Around 1,000 e-rickshaws are being provided to SHG women in the initial phase.
  • The program has been launched in districts such as Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kaushambi, and Jhansi, with expansion planned to other regions.
  • The scheme is implemented under the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission with support from Development Alternatives.
