RDSNS Breakthrough Could Revolutionize Magnetometry
On 8th July 2025, researchers at the Raman Research Institute (RRI) unveiled a major advance in magnetometry with the development of Raman-Driven Spin Noise Spectroscopy (RDSNS) — a fully optical, shield-free quantum magnetometer with high sensitivity and broad applicability.
What is RDSNS?
- A novel magnetometry technique using quantum spin noise from Rubidium (Rb) atoms to detect magnetic fields.
- Powered by Raman laser interaction, it allows non-invasive, contactless measurement of magnetic fields without shielding.
- Developed by RRI’s Quantum Mixtures (QuMIX) Lab, under Department of Science and Technology (DST) support.
Why the push for Quantum Magnetometers?
- Traditional magnetometers like Spin-Exchange Relaxation Free (SERF) and ....
