India Successfully Test-Fires Prithvi-II, Agni-I and Akash Prime Missiles

On 16–17 July 2025, India successfully test-fired three key missiles—Agni-I, Prithvi-II, and Akash Prime—from testing sites in Odisha and Ladakh, reinforcing its strategic and air defence capabilities.

What Are Agni-I and Prithvi-II?

  • Agni-I is a nuclear-capable surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a range of 700–900 km.
  • Prithvi-II is India’s first indigenously developed ballistic missile with a range of ~350 km.
  • Both are part of India’s Strategic Forces Command and support its minimum credible deterrence doctrine.

What is Akash Prime?

  • An upgraded version of the Akash surface-to-air missile, tailored for high-altitude operations.
