India and Myanmar Reaffirmed Strategic Partnership

On 1st June 2026, Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks in New Delhi, reaffirming cooperation in connectivity, trade, security, development partnership, and cultural exchanges.

Key Outcomes

  • India described Myanmar as a key partner at the intersection of its:
    • Neighbourhood First Policy,
    • Act East Policy,
    • MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) vision.
  • Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, defence and security, border management, development assistance, and people-to-people ties.
  • India announced enhancement of Mekong-Ganga ICCR Scholarships for Myanmar students from 36 to 100 annually from 2026.
