India-South Africa Science & Technology Cooperation

On 3rd June 2026, India and South Africa agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in emerging technologies during talks between Union Minister Jitendra Singh and South African Deputy Minister Nomalungelo Gina.

Key Outcomes

  • Agreed to scale up cooperation in:
    • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
    • Digital Infrastructure
    • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Shift focus from traditional research collaboration to innovation-driven partnerships with economic and societal impact.

Astronomy Cooperation

  • Both countries reviewed cooperation under the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project.

SKA is one of the world's largest radio telescope projects and a flagship example of India–South Africa scientific collaboration.

Multilateral Cooperation

  • Collaboration through BRICS, IBSA, G20 ....
