Approval of PESA Rules to Empower Gram Sabhas
- On 23rd December 2025, the Jharkhand Cabinet approved the rules under the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA).
- The rules will grant extensive administrative and decision-making powers to Gram Sabhas in Fifth Schedule areas.
- Thirteen districts of Jharkhand fall entirely under the Fifth Schedule, while parts of two other districts are partially notified.
- Gram Sabhas will play a decisive role in the implementation of development plans in these areas.
