Approval of PESA Rules to Empower Gram Sabhas

  • On 23rd December 2025, the Jharkhand Cabinet approved the rules under the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA).
  • The rules will grant extensive administrative and decision-making powers to Gram Sabhas in Fifth Schedule areas.
  • Thirteen districts of Jharkhand fall entirely under the Fifth Schedule, while parts of two other districts are partially notified.
