Doppler Weather Radars Approved

  • Recently, the Union Government approved three new Doppler Weather Radars (DWRs) for Haridwar, Pantnagar, and Auli.
  • These radars will expand high-resolution weather monitoring in the state.
  • Doppler radars can detect storm structure, wind patterns, moisture intensity, and vertical cloud development 30–90 minutes in advance.
  • Currently, Uttarakhand has DWRs at Surkanda Devi, Mukteshwar, and Lansdowne.
  • Large areas, especially the Shivalik foothills, parts of Kumaon, and upper Garhwal ranges, remain outside real-time radar ....
