Five-Point Global Action Plan to Protect Mountain Ecosystems

On 16th May 2025, Indian Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change called for unified global action to protect fragile mountain ecosystems during an address at the 1st Sagarmatha Sambaad in Kathmandu, Nepal.

  • The summit, themed Climate Change, Mountains, and the Future of Humanity’, witnessed participation from global climate leaders and dignitaries.

Five-Point Call for Global Action

  1. Enhanced Scientific Cooperation: Strengthen collaborative research on cryospheric changes, biodiversity, and water cycles in mountain regions.
  2. Building Climate Resilience:Invest in disaster preparedness (e.g., early warning systems for Glacial Lake Outburst Floods) and climate-resilient infrastructure.
