- As per the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), 70% of urban areas lack scientifically designed stormwater drainage systems.
- Mumbai: Drainage infrastructure, built in the 1860s, was designed for 25 mm/hour rainfall but now faces over 100 mm/hour. 80% of natural water bodies have been lost in the last four decades, reducing natural flood mitigation.
