Scarlet Dragonfly Sighting in Munnar

A rare scarlet dragonfly (Crocothemis erythraea) was recently spotted in the valleys of Munnar, Kerala, marking an interesting addition to the Western Ghats’ insect biodiversity.

  • Commonly known as broad scarlet, common scarlet-darter, or scarlet darter, it belongs to the dragonfly family Libellulidae.
