Glanders
On 27th August 2025, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD) issued the Revised National Action Plan on Glanders to strengthen surveillance, prevention, control, and eradication of the disease across India.
- Glanders is a contagious and often fatal disease of equines such as horses, mules, and donkeys, caused by the bacterium Burkholderia mallei.
- The disease also poses risks to other animals and humans, making it a serious One Health concern, and is notifiable under the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals (PCICDA) Act, 2009.
