Nation’s First Animal Stem Cell Biobank
On 9th August 2025, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology inaugurated India’s first Animal Stem Cell Biobank at the National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB), Hyderabad.
- The biobank, developed in collaboration with HiMedia Laboratories, will provide quality-controlled animal stem cells and indigenous, low-cost cell culture media for veterinary clinics, research institutions, hospitals, and industry.
- Five farmer-focused innovations developed by NIAB were also unveiled: BruDIVA (brucellosis test), Udder Care (mastitis detection kit), CureCheck (portable antibiotic sensitivity device), Toxo Antibody Rapid Test (toxoplasmosis detection), and RapiChex JE NS1 Test (Japanese Encephalitis diagnostic kit).
