India Establishes Pilot Plant for Rare Earth Magnets at ARCI
On 20th March 2026, a pilot plant for the manufacture of Neodymium-Iron-Boron (Nd-Fe-B) rare earth permanent magnets was inaugurated at the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), Hyderabad.
- ARCI is an autonomous institution under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.
What are Nd-Fe-B Magnets?
- Neodymium-Iron-Boron (Nd-Fe-B) magnets are strong permanent magnets.
- Made from rare earth elements.
- Known for high magnetic strength and efficiency.
- Widely used in advanced technologies and clean energy systems.
Key Features of the Pilot Plant
- Covers end-to-end production: alloy → finished magnets.
- Uses powder metallurgy and sintering techniques.
- Supports technology validation and process optimisation.
- Enables ....
