ISRO Tests Upgraded CE20 Cryogenic Engine for LVM3

On 10th March 2026, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully conducted a sea-level hot test of the upgraded CE20 cryogenic engine at the ISRO Propulsion Complex, Mahendragiri.

What is the CE20 Cryogenic Engine?

  • A cryogenic upper-stage engine used in the Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3) rocket.
  • Uses liquid hydrogen as fuel and liquid oxygen as oxidiser.
  • Designed to power heavy-lift launch missions and deep-space missions.
  • One of the most complex rocket engines due to extremely low-temperature fuels.
