Arabian Sea Mini Warm Pools
- Recently, scientists highlighted the role of the Arabian Sea Mini Warm Pool (MWP) in stabilizing the Indian Summer Monsoon after disruptions caused by El Niño.
- Arabian Sea Mini Warm Pools are small, high-temperature patches of water in the southeastern Arabian Sea near the Kerala coast that form every April–May and influence local wind and rainfall patterns.
- The formation and intensity of the MWP are influenced by the Indian Ocean Capacitor Effect, a delayed response of the Indian Ocean to El Niño in the Pacific, which generates anomalous easterly winds that weaken surface cooling and strengthen the warm pool.
