National Camel Sustainability Initiative (NCSI)

Recently, Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying is considering launching the National Camel Sustainability Initiative (NCSI) to curb the decline in India’s camel population.

  • The proposal, prepared in consultation with the Food and Agriculture Organization, aims to promote camel conservation, sustainable rangeland management, veterinary innovations, and livelihood diversification.
  • The initiative will be a centrally coordinated policy platform aimed at conserving camels, promoting sustainable rangeland management, veterinary innovation, and livelihood diversification.
  • It seeks to address fragmented and underfunded camel-related policies at both central and state levels.
