Forest Declaration Assessment 2025
On 13th October 2025, the Forest Declaration Assessment reported that global forest health has plunged to “dismal” levels, with forest loss increasing despite commitments made at COP26 to halt deforestation by 2030.
- In 2024, 8.1 million hectares of forest were lost, driven by agriculture, logging, extractive industries, and fires, making the world 63% off track to meet zero-deforestation targets.
Findings of the Study
- Agricultural industries responsible for 85% of forest loss received annual subsidies of $409 billion, nearly 70 times more than the $5.9 billion allocated to forest protection and restoration.
