Maharashtra Beaches Earn Blue Flag Status
Recently, Maharashtra’s coastline received a major international recognition as five of its beaches—Shrivardhan and Nagaon in Raigad, Parnaka in Palghar, and Guhagar and Ladghar in Ratnagiri—were awarded the prestigious Blue Flag certification by Denmark’s Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
What is Blue Flag Certification?
- An international eco-label awarded to beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating operators meeting global standards of environmental excellence.
- Granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), based in Denmark.
- Assessed against 33 stringent criteria, including:
- Water quality and waste management.
- Safety measures and lifeguard services.
- Public amenities and accessibility.
- Environmental education and sustainable practices.
