Sundarbans Conservation Outlook Declines to ‘Significant Concern’
Recently, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has downgraded the Sundarbans National Park’s conservation outlook from ‘Good with Some Concerns’ (2020) to ‘Significant Concern’ (2025) in its World Heritage Outlook 4 report, released during the ongoing IUCN Congress in Abu Dhabi.
- The report assesses the conservation status of all UNESCO Natural World Heritage Sites globally.

- The Sundarbans faces threats from salinity, heavy metal contamination, and unsustainable resource extraction.
