Australia Group (AG)

The Australia Group (AG) is an informal multilateral export control regime (MECR) aimed at preventing the proliferation of chemical and biological weapons (CBW).

Control Lists for Dual-use CBW

  • AG maintains Common Control Lists covering chemical precursors, biological agents and dual-use equipment.
  • These lists target items like fermenters and toxins that have legitimate civilian uses.
  • Members implement national export licensing to ensure these materials aren't diverted for weapons.
  • It bridges gaps in the Chemical and Biological Weapons Conventions via technical oversight.
