New Regime in Nepal

Balendra Shah was sworn in as the 47th Prime Minister of Nepal on March 27, 2026, following a historic landslide victory by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) which secured 182 seats in the Pratinidhi Sabha.

  • At age 35, Shah is the youngest Prime Minister in Nepal's history.
  • The 2026 election results were heavily influenced by the September 2025 youth-led anti-corruption movements and the subsequent interim administration of Sushila Karki.
  • India remains Nepal's largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $7.33 billion in the 2024-25 fiscal year.
