United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)

ECOSOC was established in 1945 under the UN Charter to coordinate economic, social, and environmental activities of the UN system.

  • It consists of 54 member states elected by UNGA for overlapping three-year terms.
  • It serves as the central platform for discussing sustainable development issues and overseeing implementation of SDGs (adopted in 2015).
